Sarah “Hai” Edwards comes from Canada and currently resides in Annapolis, MD. She has been painting most of her life but much more seriously for the past four years. Always inspired by the French impressionists and the expressionist movement, she can spend hours looking at Monet’s ‘Impression, soleil levant’.
Not having a middle name, Sarah adopted “Hai” as part of her artistic identity. Sarah has done 2 wall mural works commissioned by private home owners in Canada. Her artistic journey is opening doors for her to share her work with a wide range of people and she intends to make the most of it. She is a member of the Foundry Gallery, DC’s oldest artist–run cooperative.

My work is an exploration of human relationship with our obvious surroundings. Through organic shapes, I’m trying to find distance between myself and the usualness of all things that might seem routine. Landscape, man-made or otherwise and people are considerably fascinating when all notions of familiarity are stripped away. To find this sweet spot of unconventional clarity in which I am separated from mundane opinions is the essence of my work. With gestural impressions not completely devoid of connecting forms and acrylic paints, I make this journey from ideas onto canvas.
This is the artistic style that speaks the most to my creative self and one which I will continue pursuing and refining.
