I was born in one of the northernmost countries in the world, Finland. It is the land of 180,000 lakes, birch forests, fresh milk and northern lights. Later, I was fortunate to call Lake Como my home, after years of collaborating with Italian partners in the field of interior design. The colorful lifestyle of the small mountain village and the breathtaking scenery to which I awoke became my additional sources of inspiration. Living in Italy has added a significant contribution to my way of painting and expressing myself -- seemingly bringing the vivid Mediterranean colors into the Scandinavian minimalistic style.

I find myself mostly juxtaposing the old and the new, praised and neglected, simple and complex. Contrasts in any subject interest me. Lately, it’s becoming more important to me to raise awareness of the state of the world today. My latest paintings are inspired by politics, world news, people and their actions. These poignant rendezvous, observing and critiquing U.S. mass media have forced me to do my own research and comment on the direction that the world is going today. The continuous aim for balance and 'less is more' approach defines me as an artist.

Tania Meski is an emerging self-taught artist dividing her time between three countries, the United States, Italy and Finland. She holds degrees in Travel and Interior Design.
