Patsy Fleming is both a figurative and an abstract painter. Her figurative work is abstract; her abstract work can be figurative. She uses dramatic combinations of vibrant color and elegant line to create expressive abstract and figurative forms. The exceptional quality of her work intensifies its beauty. She has been critically described as “someone to watch” who “hits the mark with astonishing results and always with skill and sensitivity.”

About her abstract paintings Fleming says, “Color and line are vehicles for the expression of memory, imagination and a lifetime of witness. Art in a time of crisis: It seems these days we are in a continual state of crisis. I paint with energy and empathy to escape the reality of our lives right now. We catch a moment, catch a lifetime in paint. It is my hope that the observer finds meaning in my art according to his or her own experience and thoughts.

Patsy Fleming is a citizen of the world. She is an American, but in her values and ideals she represents all those who believe in democracy and are struggling for peace, freedom and a life with all the basic necessities available.

Patsy currently lives and works in Bethesda, MD, in her own studio and at the Yellow Barn Studio in Flen Echo, MD. She began painting at Vassar College, where she studied with Alton Pickens. Her graduate studies were at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and New York University, where she was mentored by Hale Woodruff.

Patsy has been a member of Foundry Gallery for 10 years. In addition to solo and group exhibitions at Foundry, her work has been seen at many galleries in the Washington, DC, area and across the country. Her paintings are in private collection in the U.S. and in Edinburg, Scotland; Cairo, Egypt and St Petersburg, Russia.
