I am mostly an abstract painter influenced by such artists as Rauschenberg, de Stael, Diebenkorn, Rothko, van Gogh, and Matisse. A colorist, I compose with colors and shapes to create compelling paintings. My paintings are both planned and spontaneous, and I often rework the canvas as I paint, with each color and shape adding new complexities and intrigue to the canvas.

Jenny Brake lives in Washington, DC. She studied at Corcoran during the 1960’s and returned to painting after her retirement. She also has studied at the Smithsonian and the Yellow Barn. For the past several years, she has painted weekly with two other local Washington artists. She is currently an affiliate member of Foundry Gallery and in the past served for several years on the Board of Directors as an At-Large Director and also as Co-President. Her artwork is in private collections nationally.
