Patsy Fleming
Artist’s Statement

Patsy Fleming is both a figurative and an abstract painter. Her figurative work is abstract; her abstract work can be figurative. She uses dramatic combinations of vibrant color and elegant line to create expressive abstract and figurative forms. The exceptional quality of her work intensifies its beauty. She has been critically described as “someone to watch” who “hits the mark with astonishing results and always with skill and sensitivity.”

About her abstract paintings Fleming says, “Color and line are vehicles for the expression of memory, imagination and a lifetime of witness. Art in a time of crisis: It seems these days we are in a continual state of crisis. I paint with energy and empathy to escape the reality of our lives right now. We catch a moment, catch a lifetime in paint. It is my hope that the observer finds meaning in my art according to his or her own experience and thoughts.

Patsy graduated from Vassar College, where she began to paint. Her graduate studies were at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, New York University. She now paints in her own studio in Bethesda, MD and at the Yellow Barn Studio in Glen Echo, MD. Patsy’s work is in private collections across the United States and in several European countries. In addition to the US, she has exhibited her work in St. Petersburg, Russia; Cairo, Aswan and Luxor, Egypt and New Delhi, India.
