Foundry Gallery, Washington, DC’s oldest non-profit artist cooperative, holds monthly solo and members shows at its beautiful new industrial space on 8th Street, NW near V Street in North End Shaw. The Foundry is a lively community where artists consistently show and develop their work. And it offers Washington a gallery where people find high quality, affordable, original art.
All members are involved in the operation of the gallery and are eligible to hold executive positions. Members are required to staff the gallery one day a month, participate in a committee, and share the rights and responsibilities of running the gallery.
Among the benefits of membership:
- coordinated press and publicity for your work
- solo shows are regularly reviewed in the press
- internet presence (each artist has a page of images on the website and a link to his/her personal website)
- unframed works in bins, and a tablet screen with other images of members’ work on display
- monthly opening receptions on the first Saturday of each month, free to the public
- group drawing sessions with a model, artist’s talks, seminars and other events
- 30% commission on sales
Full Membership. All members may participate in monthly group shows. In addition, full members have the opportunity to present a one-month solo show in the main gallery every 18 months to two years. A New Full Members Exhibit is held each February, featuring members who joined the previous year. Full members belong for a minimum of two years, and membership is automatically extended after that. Dues are $150 per month.
Associate Membership. Associate members may participate in monthly group shows, exhibiting one or more works. They can move up to Full Membership at any time. Associates join for a minimum of a year, and membership is automatically extended after that. Dues are $115 per month.
