Encaustic is a wax-based paint kept molten on a heated palette. It is applied to a porous surface and then reheated in order to fuse the paint. Encaustic monotypes are created on a heated aluminum palette with encaustic paints. The image is then manipulated and transferred to paper using hand pressure. Each is a one-of-a-kind.
