Hilary Bond: Memory & Present

July 3rd, 2026 – August 2nd 2026
Opening Reception: July 11th, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Foundry Gallery is pleased to announce our newest exhibition featuring the work of Hilary Bond.  Hilary Bond’s work explores the relationship between memory, place, and visual storytelling through photography, painting, and graphic design. She draws inspiration from personal travels and the aesthetics of analog image-making to create works that examine how experiences are preserved, transformed, and remembered over time.

Many of Hilary’s pieces begin with Polaroid photographs taken by herself. These images function as more than simple documents; they serve as emotional memory objects, carrying the atmosphere and personal significance of a particular moment. By painting directly onto the Polaroids, she alters and reinterprets the photographic surface, reflecting the way memories evolve through time, emotion, and distance. The resulting works exist between documentation and imagination, where what was seen and what was felt become intertwined.

Alongside these painted photographs, she also creates graphic works inspired by the visual language of vintage film strips. Referencing the frames, sequences, and imperfections of analog photography and cinema, these pieces explore how images construct narratives and shape our understanding of memory. The film strip becomes both a compositional device and a metaphor for the fragmented, nonlinear nature of recollection.

Printed on aluminum, these works take on a luminous presence that intensifies their vivid colors and graphic forms. The reflective surface enhances the visual impact of each piece, drawing viewers in while creating a dialogue between contemporary materials and nostalgic imagery. Bright color serves as both an emotional and visual tool, capturing attention while evoking the energy, sensation, and immediacy of remembered experiences.

Through the combination of photography, painting, graphic design, and industrial materials, Hilary creates visual diaries that blur the boundaries between reality and recollection. Her work invites viewers to consider how places, moments, and stories remain with us—not as fixed records, but as evolving emotional landscapes shaped by memory, time, and imagination.
